Is floor insulation viable?

Most Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) reports will recommend insulation, wall and/or floor.

But realistically, is floor insulation viable? We don’t think so!

First you have to take up your current floor, not so bad if it’s carpet, but what about tiles? What about the knock-on effect on skirting board, wall paper?

Then you have to lift floorboards, or break up a concrete solid floor. What if you have underfloor heating?

Then you have to install the insulation before putting everything back together!

Not an easy job, not cheap, lots of potential issues and knock-on effects!

You’re far better off looking at loft insulation, cavity, or external insulation – more heating controls, TRVs on radiators and thermostats and programmers.
